kudu steak rolls come to town

listenin to: 5fm top40

i could not sleep last night. the main reason being, that i realised as i lay there, i had gotten my dates and days mixed up. some weird man in my head thought that i started cue fulltime on thursday... rewind to the real day of monday and you see my dilemma. i lay in bed, tossing and turning, bloody annoyed with myself and making all those panic stricken lists in my head. today is "operation fast forward" as i try and catch up on the days i thought i had left.

so tomorrow, yes tomorrow, begins full time work at CUE- the official newspaper of the national arts festival, grahamstown. many people, especially and sadly enough, most south africans, do not realise the impact and scale of our national arts festival. this gorgeous 10 day rollercoaster of dance, music, exhibitions, books, lectures, artifacts, inside and outdoor theatre, childrens theatre etc etc, is rivalled only by the edinburugh festival. our festival also brings approx. 35.5 million into grahamstown annually. a pretty tight boast if you ask me. apart from an appreciation of how rich our arts and culture base really is in this country, this festival really is something you should get yourself to for so many other reasons.

although the makers of cue, see little of what's on offer, it always feels like a new world, every year, as i leave the newsroom. i walk out onto the mass jammed streets, bursting with festival merchandise, weird and warmly dressed festival goers, buskers busking late into the night and the aromas of foods from places far away, wafting through the late grahamstown night. i have no doubt the feeling will be the same again this year. this is our festival- we need to own it as such.

today i like: good radio and good soccer
today i dislike: thinking i had clarity when i had no clue
