i've been pondering the difference between tolerance and acceptance. i really began to think about these two words, choices, decisions, after watching a debate about sabc 2's new series, heartlines. there was some good scripting, good filming and a very necesaary message. no matter what the dictionary definition of these terms are, when i say them, i say tolerance with more of a clenched jaw than the latter. acceptance almost makes me use hand gestures to explain the term. i think there is a definite difference between the two and a stark one at that. without writing an essay on everything i think about it, it has occured to me that we generally tolerate... people, situations, races, religions, incidents and practise acceptance only once in a while. moreso than before but still not enough.
