jilted logic

listenin to: safm

i'm listening to a slightly backward debate on safm. callers are debating what measures need to be put in place to prevent all too young girls from falling pregnant whilst they are sometimes still in school. many believe that incentives are the way forward. i.e. if you have not fallen pregnant by the time you are ready to go to university, then the state can educate you for free. others advocated some kind of social grant for those who waited till a 'suitable' age. a recent conference in durban discussed increasing the number of maternity leave days granted to school going mothers-to-be. i think all these views are operating in reverse. why are we so concerned about making young pregnancies comfortable? maybe we should rewind a bit to the point just before 13, 14 and 15 year olds land up in this situation.

i'd rather young girls think for themselves from early on. and why should there be a reward for not falling pregnant before you enter university-this should be a social given. it seems that society is these days more fixated on rescue remedies, rather than prevention and clamping down on issues before they happen.

today i like: making progress with things
today i dislike: why is it still so cold?!? we need the sun.
