listenin to: beach boys
working on: nothing... can't work anymore
so this evening i achieved something that has raised my profile on the "marriagable-for-an-indian-girl" list. i successfully made my first sweetmeat, like for the first time ever. so i have now moved into the league of extraordinary indian women. rok on! so if anyone knows some "good-indian-boy" whose mother is looking for a "good-indian-girl", dont worry i got the sweetmeats part covered... other stuff i have major work to do on them.
but on a slightly more serious note. diwali (deepavali as south indians refer to this festival) is on 1 november, monday. this is seriously one of my most favourite times of the year and the time when i miss being home the most, completely. and once again, it is the little things that makes this little town stand out like a sore thumb at this time. i miss the feeling of an approaching festival, the annual bake fests that start at home a week before monday, the excitement of seeing family and friends you dont see for the entire year and then drop in on because diwali isn't diwali without it, the light, the burfee competitions, even the annoying aunty down the road who you welcome just because it is diwali.
in the meanwhile, life carries on as per usual here. people will look at you a little more strangely when your dress becomes traditional on that day. and that will trigger off the thought that maybe something significant is happening. ya maybe hey. others will say, "so what do we say?" and most won't even know this has come and gone. it is sad to have to explain it via the short version of "it is like christmas" because whilst christmas is time of great joy, diwali is also, but in its own ways and with its own unique traditions.
the significance behind this festival is a beautiful one. all of a sudden, i really miss home.

Ohana is home. At least on this side of life. And then only for a time. After that the members of Ohana will still receive you the same... or better. I hope for the same in you. Character counts to 100.
And christmas is over-rated since most do not celebrate it as you rate it.
By saying most you ignore Ohana. And you are part of Ohana. What you think really matters to us. Ek is 'n beest. Und du bist eine Schönheit. Babelfish rocks like Chinatown. A puzzle for you.
And yes, we (and I speak without consulting them) do like well-formed arguments. But we don't argue for argument's sake. Character counts to 100. How's your numeracy?
