in the name of nationalism

listenin to: nothin
workin on: packin up my office

a friend of mine challenged me to blog about india's loss to south africa when the south african captain clobbered away at our bowlers and we lost. and you know what, yes we lost in the most pathetic of ways... yes we have bowlers who are match winners and batsmen who can aim for the heavens when they aim right. and most definitely yes, indian cricket suppourters are some of the most clued up suppourters on the game of cricket. so no... we definitely do not value other suppourters telling us how we should think, what our opinions are and how we should feel after a loss. i'll save you all the time and effort and tell you exactly how a loss feels... very very bad. in my case worse than a visit to the dentist. i do want to cry.

i remember blogging earlier in the year about the people who create dramatic issues about who people suppourt. seems those same people either did not read the post or have read it and it has gone in one ear and out the other. and coincidently enough, the latter has been this recurring pattern with typically butch, hardcore 'patriotic' south african suppourters. for a true friend of mine would question and then understand.

and it is company such as that, which i do not wish to find myself in, as a cricket suppourter. oh how bold and patriotic you are, such a true south african, because you suppourt south african cricket. and how worthy you are of being called a true south african because you suppourt the national side. i never really knew that mere suppourt of the national side would qualify one a place in the ra-ra proudly south african camp.

let me let you in on a well known fact, amongst the dedicated members of the cricket watching community. you know you've hit the right suppourt zone, when shivers and chills, tears and ecstacy become part of the game. it is a feeling... incomparable and indescribeable.

and how sad for those who think that due to this i am less of a south african. how great the calibre of south african suppourters is, with thoughts such as these.
