small pieces of everything

listenin to: 5 fm

this is going to be another post about a couple of things that have been going on. so yesterday i walked to work, as i always do, on my normal route. across african street, through peppergrove mall (no, this is not a mall like normal malls back home, but it tries) and past roxbury cinemas. yep we have 1 movie house with 3 cinemas and it is pretty nice. so yesterday i saw that the poster for 'the da vinci code' had a yellow warning sticker across the top of it. i manouvered a quick detour to take a closer look. it said something like: PG 13. This film is a fiction. This film has religious material that may offend sensitive viewers. ack! this whole da vinci code furoar has been so unecessary, and no i am not saying this because i am not a christian and do not understand the religious underpinnings of dan brown's statements in the book. i see the reason why people are upset because i don't need to be part of the religion to do so- believe it or not. but remember it was written as a fiction and should be read as one. i understand that some groups see it as dangerous for these ideas to be out in the open. unfortunately you cannot decide for others. that sticker got me thinking about the way makers of creative works have to justify their work. so i looked across to the snow dogs poster next to the da vinci code. why didn't this have a sticker saying: PG 13. This film has material that may offend sensitive dog lovers. Or why didn't the Transamerica (a movie about a man who wants to have a sex change but discovers he has a son) poster have a label stating: PG 13. This film has material that may offend homophobic persons. some maturity needs to be had because whether or not one accepts dan's brown fiction as truth, it must not be denied that a great story (again fiction, it is a fiction!) was weaved and he is a very talented writer.

i read a report early this week about india's affirmative action policy at their tertiary institutions. the indian government has pushed up the quota for those less advantaged to be able to study at the best institutions in the country. the government calls these less advantaged " otherwise backward classes". that name made me laugh. ok i know i shouldn't be laughing but i thought sa had frustrating affirmative policies. good to know we are not alone. on that note... us indians are perplexed about our catergorisation. personally i find it frustrating for one company to classify me as disadvantaged black and another to note me as advantaged white. stop it, i am indian!

our new rmr studios are almost complete-once they are, i will post pics of them here. it looks so professional and cool already. wow! even i feel brand new when i'm inside.

nadika, thanks for the email :) i'm glad you're enjoying the posts.

today i like: it is friday... what more can i say
today i dislike: i have the coffee craving taste in my mouth again
