home is...

one of the things about studying away from home is how over the years friends become family. places which did not have any connection before become homes away from homes. i am spending this long weekend in one such home; with the richters in east london. it is fantastic to feel like some of the lazy lounge about things you do in your own home can be done somewhere else too ;) these people rock.

on the cricket front much has been happening. most recently, sa's defeat at the hands of bangladesh was a feat to watch. no, not because i wanted sa to loose. but because it is fantastic to see the game growing with a team that everyone had written off-in many ways they are reminiscent of sri lanka not too long ago. it is important to remember that they did not only win because sa played badly but also because they themselves played outstandingly in all departments. i find myself anticipating the aftermath and how sa fans will react to this. there is nothing to become panicked about-sa will now have to perform at the best to win their next 3 games. but should that not always have been the case anyway? to win the cup (which is the ultimate goal) they must overcome sri lanka, new zealand and australia. there is still time for this to happen. so instead of panicked excuses, accept defeat and move on.

the same applies to indian cricket actually. and it seems after the horrendous storm-some kind of pull together has been found. the tour to bangladesh will now include a young team, with ravi shastri as manager. dravid has been retained as captain. my concern lies with a sort of make shift coaching team that we now have-if it works it could be powerful with each facet of the game getting individual attention. if it does not work, we are back to square one. but at least those involved are making some attempts at moving indian cricket in the right direction.

today i like: being 'home' for the weekend
today i dislike: v little
